If you are currently reading a book (or article) that is Whitehead- or Process-related I would be interested in the title and maybe a sentence about why it is on your stack along with P&R.

In my case I sprang for a used copy of Jorge Nobo’s “Whitehead’s Metaphysics of Extension and Solidarity”. It is an older book (1986) and perhaps has been superceded or critiqued to the sidelines but I was looking for something that would take a deep dive into the notion of extension in ANW’s work. It feels to me that the notion of extension (both spatial and temporal) arising as somehow secondary to the foundational actual occasions of the universe is a literally earth-shattering upset to common paradigms.

I’m at the final chapter of Rupert Sheldrake’s ‘Science Set Free’, which relies heavily on Whitehead, especially Chapter 4 – Is Matter Unconscious. I would highly recommend this accessible chapter as well as the whole book.

I do believe Sheldrake also shows us a bit of where our reading is going in the future ;-).

Next up is his son Merlin’s mushroom/mycellium book, Entangled Life.

FWIW, I like Cosmo’s music too.

AH. Yes. I have had both Sheldrake’s books on my “to-read” stack… having read and appreciated many of his earlier works. I will have to move them up on my queue. Rupert had a fascinating recent essay entitled “Is the Sun Conscious” which was rather mind-blowing. It was published in the Journal of Consciousness Studies in 2021 and is available on his website. His thoughts on the evolution of “laws” of science seems aligned with ANW and, of course, he has widened our notions of the nature of “fields” with his morphogenetic fields hypothesis.

      Thanks for reminding me!

I will attempt to upload the essay as a smallish PDF.
