Ecological civilization is a 30 year old movement in China to build a sustainable future after decades of rapid industrialization and modernization. The pollution of air, water, and soil created major public health challenges. The aspiration to create an ecological civilization has been in the Chinese constitution since 2018. We will explore the problems and promises of this aspiration.
About the Presenter(s)

Mary Evelyn Tucker is co-director of the Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology with her husband, John Grim. She is affiliated faculty with the Yale Center for Environmental Justice at the Yale School of the Environment. With Grim, Tucker directed a 10-conference series and book project at Harvard on “World Religions and Ecology.” They have created six online courses in “Religions and Ecology: Restoring the Earth Community” and three online courses on Journey of the Universe with Yale-Coursera. Tucker’s research focus is Chinese and Japanese Confucianism. She co-edited Confucianism and Ecology, Daoism and Ecology, and Buddhism and Ecology.
