Cobb Institute Musician Laureate
Hope Montgomery
Combining lyrically rich songs with rhythmic melodies, Hope Montgomery’s music explores faith, doubt, self, and love entangled with an illustrative backdrop of landscape and nature. Born in the South, but a current resident of Rockaway Beach, Oregon, Hope’s writings are interested in the allure of place and calling. Hope has played the guitar her entire life and is influenced by other indie pop and folk musicians like Clem Snide and Bad Bad Hats. She is hoping to release her third album in 2023, and you can find the rest of her work at Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, or wherever you find your music.

Breath and Clay Music Video
Lyrics
VERSE 1:
There’s no way
That the stars know that we’re here
If we can’t find mystery there
We’ll never find it here
I’ll tried to pray
But I just don’t have the faith
There are planets out in space
That are galaxies away
CHORUS:
But when I’m here
I hold you
Out of earth
I mold you
We are breath and clay
We are breath and clay
VERSE 2:
I found a way
To send a message out to space
If I sent it out today
It’d be galaxies away
If I don’t obey
Then the heavens still rotate
The moons will still align
And the comets will still race
CHORUS:
But when I’m here
I hold you
Out of earth
I mold you
We are breath and clay
We are breath and clay
BRIDGE:
And if the stars don’t lead the way
And if the darkness gives away
CHORUS:
Then I’ll still
Hold you
Out of earth
I mold you
We are breath and clay
We are breath and clay
Solstice Song Music Video
Lyrics
With your feet on the ground
You’re singing aloud
You breathe easily
You’re climbing the trees
You’re telling me
You can see everything
The solstice, my love,
The signs from above
Remember the tide and moon
The solstice is coming soon
Be patient, my love
There’s no need to rush
There’s no urgency
The days are still long,
So, Atlas, stay strong
There’s growth we can’t see
Remember the rain,
The salt in your veins
Remember the salt in your wounds
The solstice is coming soon
Stay up all day
And part of the night
Teach me the native songs
And soak up the light
The solstice, my love,
The signs from above
Remember the tide and moon
The solstice is coming soon
Remember the rain,
The salt in your veins
Remember the salt in your wounds
The solstice is coming soon
