Resources to Help

Hello Processers!

Another huge help for me trying to read Chapter II, “The Categoreal Scheme,” is the Homebrewed Christianity/Cobb Institute online class “Probing Process and Reality.” If anyone’s interested, I hope it’s reachable through this link — you sign up, and it’s on a donation basis. Dr. Cobb starts talking about the Catergoreal Scheme in Session I Part 2 at Minute 54 — Then picks up in Session II:
https://cobb.institute/learning-lab/probing-process-and-reality/
(I started it in early 2020 & had to stop reading Whitehead in order to read how to stay alive in a pandemic. Now I’m so happy to have a group to read with, with these videos as an additional resource!)

It’s reassuring to hear Dr. Cobb say that he usually didn’t start out here when teaching P&R — that Chapter 2 is Whitehead’s metaphysical chapter where he’s trying to describe everything that can be said about every occasion — Maybe more a summary than an intro! Whew! I believe that!!

Thanks so much, Kazi and Jared, for this wonderful opportunity — these resources, encouragement to read, and your own unique illuminations !!!!!!

If anyone is checking out the Homebrewed Christianity/Cobb Institute online class “Probing Process and Reality” mentioned above, our own reading for July 31 is discussed in Dr. Cobb’s third Lecture, with followup Questions from Tripp and then from the class — “The Extensive Continuum,” pp. 61-82. It’s fun to get Dr. Cobb’s perspectives on the ideas and their significance, in addition to help with the ideas themselves.
If anyone has tried the link in my earlier post, I’d love to know whether or not the process (if you’ll pardon the expression) worked for you : )
Looking forward to Sunday evening Eastern!!

Thanks for suggesting this. I have signed up for the Dr. Cobb series and find it helpful. One practical problem I have is that the links to the audio-only versions are non-funtional. I am generally much less free to sit with my computer for hours than to listen to an audio while working around my place. I have enquired to Cobb Institute about this but received no reply. I tried to join the Facebook group associated with the class but my request is still pending after more than a week. If anyone has thoughts about how I could get access to those audio files I would appreciate it.

Great comments here, Daryl! I would like to audit your fifth grade math-y classes! Surely hope you can be in person Sunday!!!

Recently I waited a month for a Cobb reply, and received full attention then, so don’t give up!

Meanwhile, googling [Process and Reality,Tripp Fuller] (spaces as printed here — none around the comma) brings up many of the audios for me.

Here’s some of the Homebrewed Christianity PR that I used back in 2020 to sign up — but it looks like signing up now takes you to a list to be notified when it’s available:
    https://homebrewedchristianity.lpages.co/processandreality/

When I recently checked out the Facebook group, scrolling back to the original Homebrewed comments took way more time than I should have taken!…. Since that original seminar, the FB group seems to be a more general Cobb one now.

Good luck! Sure is interesting! Thanks for the comments in the Forum!

For anyone following this question I am pleased to report that the folks at Cobb Institute have updated the links to the audio files for the Cobb-P&R course and they are available for download to those who enroll in the course.
