Lovely discussion. I like John Cobb’s wordbook quite a lot, though I know people who are not much taken with it. Reading Process and Reality on one’s own is a monumental undertaking and is probably more likely than not to end in frustration.

Concrete examples are always useful. Of course, we have many concrete examples of people living in harmony with the earth, but most of this pre-date the industrial age and of course, all human communities are in some ways flawed. That said, I completely agree with the idea that abstractions are limited and that concrete examples are extremely useful.

Hi, Allen,
Nice to meet you. Looking forward to hearing you talk about the gift economy. As you know, we all participate in a gift economy, its just that not everyone is aware of it and many downplay its importants.

Nicholas,
I am only commenting on one small piece of this response.
To say “God created the world” is, from a process perspective, extremely elliptical. It would be more accurate, and less poetic, to say, something like the one primordial actuality, in this cosmic epic, encouraged the decisions that led to the creation of the type of cosmic order that included planets like the earth and the creatures that populate the earth over time. This is, to my mind, almost identical to saying that all of us (including God) co-created the earth.Very good post.
