I would like to participate in this option and would be happy to exchange proposals with someone. The best way to connect is by email at ryan.white@pcusa.org

Kathleen, thanks for this reflection and sharing of examples where there seems to be wonderful collaboration at the local level around Bloomington. Thanks also to Chris and Eric for amplifying related issues.
I too find this to be one of the major challenges facing us as a country and society today. Not only the dissonance relating to political options and exploitation of the rural by urban economies and corporate interests, but also the “othering” and as Neil commented at the end of class, the potential for objectification of the rural lifestyle, which I expanded on in a separate post.

Thanks for sharing this reflection and podcast link Kathleen. I resonate with your feelings of the challenge of organizing differently within our individualized society and yet I hope there is a way to live differently.

Kathleen, thank you for this reflection and specific examples. I very much resonate with what you are suggesting, but sometimes forget, or do not rethink how to engage with those who do not share the same ideas and language as myself.

Joel, Jay and Kathleen, thank you each for your responses here and to my post the previous week, I appreciate your thoughts and ideas! I agree, Jay’s statement, that counter-lures “come from the independent self-creativity of creatures” helpful and intriguing and Kathleen you bring up a great question whether this is still “within” God.
Joel, not sure if you remember, but we met briefly while waiting for flights back from Homebrewed Theology Beer Camp. It was good to “see” you in this class and I’ve thought about you and your work as you returned to Malibu. Wishing you all the best as you continue to “process” these courses and integrate it into youth ministry.
