Lucas – thank you for your responses….especially without the convenience of page numbers! Your excursus on father/abba and questions of intimacy seems a good foundation for further examination of the nonsensory. The argument seems to build by elimination. In the absence of biological experience/perception how does Jesus experience intimacy with God. For that matter, how do we experience intimacy with God and each other in the absence of perceptible evidence in our relational life. This seems really relevant for the demands of launching young adults when so much of what can be perceived is distancing and breaking with old ways of relating.
I also appreciated your reflections on providence. In addition to “God’s ongoing activity in our lives”, Cobb asserts that our experience of inspiration is part of the ongoing call forward. He uses the illustration of pianists who do not fully control their hands or his own writing and the emerging content despite his planned direction.

LOVED reflections on ripening. This leads naturally to process notions of perishing. The Launch of young adults is very related to the ripening and perishing of prior forms of relating to one another. Thanks Lukas.

Thank you Theresa! I, too, am currently enjoying and appreciating The Not-Yet God by Delio. So glad to know if your connection with her work. You sound so celebratory of Young Adults already – what a wonderful energy to bring this time together. I look forward to the mystical and contemplative energy you will bring to our discussions.

Thank you so much Luke for this introduction. I appreciate learning what you are hoping for and am already thinking of a little book by John Cobb, Jr. entitled Praying for Jennifer: An Exploration of Intercessory Prayer in Story Form. Perhaps you already know of it.

Rolla – that is fascinating what a privilege to be a part of that experience.

As I read this stream, it seems that the scale of the project matters but also likely the challenge of intentional communities is that the amount of conversation multiplies the possibilities and potentialities for a community’s economy. Practically, its a great deal to manage all that emergence over time.
There is a sense in which the fatigue of process can defeat its own values. It might be true that the intentional communities are rather short lived because they are both separate from and dependent upon a more mainstream economy. The art of managing differentiation and interconnectedness is a bitch to say the least.

I really appreciate your concluding sentence Rolla. Its appropriately emboldening. The challenge of disentanglement has been interrupting my train of thought through all the readings. Thank you.

  • How wonderful to.have this recommendation….looking forward to reviewing/reading both. Thank you Charles
